Information for Spring 2021
Your teachers are Mrs Leadbeater (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and Mrs Goncalves (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays).
Your teaching assistants are Mrs Berney and Miss Forbes.
Timings for the School Day:
Start- 8:40
Lunch- 11:45-12:30 (Play at 11:45 and Eat at 12:10)
Hometime- 2:55
If your child has siblings in school, all children will arrive at the earliest start time and leave at the latest end time (see the table below). Doors will open 5 minutes before for all.

PE
PE will be on Thursdays. Please remember to send your child to school wearing their P.E. kit and also remove any jewellery, such as earrings, for this day.

Reading Folder Day
We will be changing reading books once a week only due to the current Covid regulations. Our reading folder day will be a Tuesday. Please do not send anything into school on any other day.
Homework
A homework menu will be sent home at the beginning of each term. Please complete the tasks throughout the term and send us photographs of things you have made. You can email these to us at tanyal3@churchvale.notts.sch.uk or vicky.goncalves@churchvale.notts.sch.uk. We will look forward to seeing what you get up to.
We will use SeeSaw as our platform to support home learning in the event of bubble/school closures or isolation.
The expectation is that all activities set by teachers will be completed. Please contact us if you need help or support.

Purple Mash
In every child's reading record, there will be a username and password to enable access to the fabulous Purple Mash resources. There are lots of interactive games and programs for the children to use to continue practising many skills that we have learnt in class throughout the curriculum areas. You can access Purple Mash using most devices.
If your child s struggling to understand the current situation this is a nice book explaining all about the Coronavirus in child friendly language by the illustrator of the Gruffalo.

Fab Phonics in Year 1!
In year 1, we love phonics! We are working hard to learn our letter sounds in our reading and in our writing. We have fun reading 'alien' and 'nonsense' words using our fab phonics to decode the word.

Topic Work (History/Geography, Art/DT)
This term, our topic is 'We Are Authors'. We will be learning about the 4 parts of the UK and their capital cities as well as exploring some of their famous landmarks. The Authors that we will be studying include Allan Ahlberg, Chae Strathie, Jonny Duddle and Elizabeth Zunon. We will be comparing and contrasting South Africa to the UK and looking at human and physical features. Other facts we will learn include learning the names of the 7 continents and 5 oceans.
In Art and DT, we will be looking at work by the artist 'Paul Klee' and creating our own 'Paul Klee' inspired Artwork and in DT, we will be making some moving pictures.
