Welcome to Year 1

Information for Spring 2023

 

Note

Online learning for 10th March 2023 is accessible via the Seesaw app.  Please find your childs login details on the inside cover of their reading diary.  If you have any issues logging in email vicky.goncalves@churchvale.notts.sch.uk 

 

Your teachers are Mrs Leadbeater (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and Mrs Goncalves (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays).

Your class teaching assistant is Mrs West.

Other teaching assistants supporting Year 1 are;

Miss Bull, Mrs Boden, Miss May & Miss Landay. 

 

Timings for the School Day:

Start- 8:45

Lunch- 12:00-12:45

Hometime- 3:00

 

PE

PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please remember to send your child to school with their PE kit at the beginning of term. Please ensure to remove any jewelry, such as earrings, for this day.

As a reminder, PE kit needs to be:

  • Black or navy jogging bottoms / tracksuit bottoms
  • Black or navy shorts
  • A plain white t shirt
  • They can wear a black or navy tracksuit top or sports top too
  • Appropriate footwear for sport

 

Reading Folders

Please ensure your child brings their reading folder to school everyday along with their reading books and reading record. 

 

Homework

It is expected that your child reads their reading book as often as possible, at least 3 times a week. Please record reads in your child's reading record.

 

We have a ‘Be a RockStar’ Maths target which changes each half term.  This can be found in the back of reading diaries and there is a box to sign each time they complete a practice.

Oxford Owl Reading Books

 

The Oxford Owl website has an excellent selection of reading books to read at home. There are also accompanying activities too. You can access them from most devices. Our class log in to access these brilliant resources is:

Inside your child's reading diary, there will be a sticker with a username and password to access a fantastic e-library.

Fab Phonics in Year 1!

 

In year 1, we love phonics! We are working hard to learn our letter sounds in our reading and in our writing. We have fun reading 'alien' and 'nonsense' words using our fab phonics to decode the word.
