Miss Rowley and Miss Smith welcome you to Year 1!

Below there are lots of resources for learning. We have also given you access to all our time to read sheets that we'll use this year. Please read with your child as often as possible, preferably daily, to help with their reading skills.

Timings for the School Day:

Start- 8:45

Lunch- 12:00-12:45

Home time- 3:15

Yoga is on a Wednesday and on Thursdays we have PE with Express Coaching. Children will get changed into PE kit on Wednesdays and Thursdays. No earrings on both days please. Can children please leave their PE kits in a bag at school. Please can children practise getting changed themselves to ensure they are confident with tricky things like buttons and zips.

Have your child read to you at least 3 times a week and record in their reading record. We will use this to keep you up to date with their reading. We send time to read sheets home daily as well as spellings on a Friday- please look at these with your child. It is so important.

Remember to bring a raincoat to school every day, book bag and water bottle.

In the Spring 1 term, Year 1 will be reading Little People, Big Dreams: Florence in Whole Class Reading and will be looking at the Ugly Duckling and Nurse Clementine in our writing unit.

In Maths we are going to begin learning place value within 20 followed by addition and subtraction (within 20).

In History we are going to be exploring the life of Florence Nightingale and the work she carried out.

 In science, we are going to be investigating everyday materials.

Our artist this term is the fantastic Romero Britto and in Music we are going to be exploring rhythm patterns.

Fab Phonics in Year 1!

In year 1, we love phonics! We are working hard to learn our letter sounds in our reading and in our writing. We have fun reading 'alien' and 'nonsense' words using our fab phonics to decode the word.
